Money The local currency is the Tunisian dinar - credit cards are mainly used in the tourist areas. Haggling is the norm in the souks and some shops – take your time and aim to pay around a third of the starting price. Tipping is common practice.
Getting around Organized excursions are the easiest way to see the sights, or you can hire a car and driver and take an independent tour. For peace of mind, ask your Travel Counsellor to make the arrangements before you leave home.
Language Tunisians speak Arabic with French as their second language, but English is also spoken in areas popular with tourists.
Electricity The local current is 220 volts with double round pin plugs.
Clothes It’s important to dress with respect for local customs when away from the beaches and hotels. The midday sun can be fierce so you’ll need to cover up, and bear in mind that it can be very cold at night if you are in the desert.
