Annabel Wilshaw, Travel Counsellor Chartier is a busy, smoky and not to be missed restaurant. It opened as a soup kitchen in 1896 and today serves up traditional basic French food in an Art Nouveau building. The waiters have worked there for an average of thirty years or more. A three course evening meal with wine is about 15 euros a head. Expect to wait to get into this popular haunt but it's worth it. You may end up sharing a table with another couple.
Choose your location carefully and you can still find bargains in Paris. In the touristy Latin Quarter there are still three course lunches priced at 10 euros a head. The food is generally tasty and there are plenty of restaurants in the area to choose from. Museums are also pretty reasonable at about 5 euros entrance fee. The Louvre is free the first Monday of every month.
Julie Savill, Travel Counsellor Paris is such a small city that you don’t need to stay on the Champs Elysees to enjoy it. The Marais (arrondissement 4) is a lovely fashionable area with some fabulous boutique hotels and it’s walking distance to all main attractions. The area has lots of little shops and cafes and a nicer ambiance than the Champs Elysees.
Mike Frank, Travel Counsellor To help manage your budget, you can book all your trips and excursions when you buy your break. Then you know exactly where your budget stands and I’m sure your partner on a romantic break will be impressed if you’ve organised all your side-trips in advance.
Blanche Summers, Travel Counsellor You can pre-book a river cruise and dinner for around £80 – 95 a head. I enjoyed one when I was in Paris for our tenth wedding anniversary. It was very romantic. I recommend you book one of the small tables for two by the window.
